Happy birthday Jacque

It's that time of the year again (where did the last one go??) my upline's Jacque Pedersen's birthday - so pressure!!

Lucky for me Jan B chose to learn the tri-fold shutter card at her home class this week which I'd created prior HERE and HERE.

So I had an absolutely fabulous card (even if I say so myself) to post away and yes these do fold up flat to post.

Well I hope it is a very special day for Jacque and hopefully she allows herself one bit of cake!

Recipe (all products available from SU!):
Stamp set: Great Friend
Ink: So Saffron, Cameo Coral, Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss, Basic Gray
Paper: So Saffron, Cameo Coral, Baja Breeze, Whisper White, Walk in the Park DSP
Other: Trio flower punch, Signo white gel pen, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Anywhere glue stick, dimensionals.

My first recessed window cards

Tonight's theme for my home class was 3D and I thought when the tutorial on Split Coast Stampers showed these I thought they looked easy and really effective.

When making one they probably are but when prepping for 12 for class I was thinking I am MAD but I had a brainwave after measuring and scoring 4 to make a template with cardboard with a 1" square and a 1-¼" square frame - dare I say it I'm a genius! It was easy peasy after that.

I do recommend you watch the video link on SplitCoast Stampers rather than just read the tutorial.

Points of difference between the video and the written tutorial follow:
  1. Base card stock 5-¼” x 10- ¾”.
  2. Score at 5- ¼” and 5-½”
  3. On the front of the card pencil the first square 1”in from the outer lines. (I used a frame I cut out of cardboard to trace around - see below and the pictures to the right).
  4. Then 2nd square ¼” inside the first square - again I used a frame I cut out of cardboard to trace around
  5. Score the lines with scoring blade or Scor-Pal
  6. To make the frame of designer series paper you need 5” square piece.
  7. Line up on cutter at 4- ¼” and cut from ¾” mark on top track to 4-¼”
  8. Turn and repeat on all 4 sides (this will give you a ¾” frame)
  9. Trim the off-cut to 3-⅛” square - use in recessed window.
To make the 1" frame of cardboard:
  1. Take a 5-¼” square of cardboard
  2. Line up on the trimmer at 4-¼” and cut from the 1" mark on top track to 4-¼”
  3. Turn and repeat on all 4 sides (this will give you a 1" frame)
To make the 1-¼" frame of cardboard:
  1. Take a 5-¼” square of cardboard
  2. Line up on trimmer at 4" and cut from the 1-¼" mark to the 4" mark
  3. Turn and repeat on all 4 sides (this will give you a 1-¼" frame)

Recipe:
Stamp set: Great Friend

Parisian Breeze

Stampin Up Parisian BreezeThis is the name of the 2nd specialty designer series paper to be introduced to NZ (the other is Sweet Slumber in the main IB+C). The first thing you probably notice is the difference in price between it & the other designer series paper ($27.95 cf. to $19.95) - that's because it's card stock weight which makes it perfect for creating boxes (as well as embellishing cards). If you click on the picture it will enlarge it so you can fully enjoy how beautiful it is!

My team this week have been having a bit of a cyber-swap on our team demo forum and you may have seen some increased blog activity out here as well because of this - I certainly have really enjoyed it.

One of the challenges was to Try a New Technique - so I finally downloaded one of the many templates SU! provides for us demonstrators & attempted to recreate the cute wee handbag box on page 5 of the new Spring Mini. I'd also just recently purchased Dotto ( & I'm totally hooked so this may not be my last post using templates). The Dotto (which is a removable adhesive) holds the template firmly in place whilst you cut around it and then you can peel it off & use it again - how fantastic is that!

This is my wee handbag box using Parisian Breeze DSP & the Great Friend stamp set. If you'd like the template to have a go yourself contact me or your demonstrator.

Great Friend goes for a Walk in the Park

Janet's corrosive challenge this week is a sketch challenge & they certainly make creating a card easier. One of my stampin' team Lisa B AKA daffyscrapper had swapped with me recently & I loved how she made her own paper using the stamps in Great Friend so she was my inspiration. Her paper sample can be seen HERE - she has been busy with it I see, making invites too! I took the concept & colours from the divine piece of Walk in the Park DSP. Sponged the edges with So Saffron ink plus cut out the butterfly & popped him up on dimensionals plus added a few half pearls - pretty. Dare I say it - I liked working with Cameo Coral too.

Stamp set: Great Friend
Ink: Cameo Coral, Baja Breeze, So Saffron, Kiwi Kiss
Paper: Baja Breeze, Basic Gray, Confetti White, Walk in the Park DSP
Other: Scallop oval punch (so in love with this), large oval punch, half cream pearls (Pretties kit), mini glue dots, dimensionals, sponge

Here's Janet's sketch for inspiration:

Hope you can join us this week. I only have 2 more weeks to go on the Design Team but I've really enjoyed it & will be an active participant in the future and it's been really great seeing all the kiwis entering (& occasionally winning).

I'll have to have a wee prize my LAST week so until then you'll have to rely on the random integer! GOOD LUCK.
