Foiling without heat or pressure

One of my mini classes at my "fall" SCT cardmaking event was sponsored by Brutus Monroe and Thermoweb. Our teacher was Michael Boyd, who all the ladies loved - he was so down to earth, funny, a fab card maker, what wasn't there to love about his 60 minute presentation.

Now if only I had been a good girl and done my homework back in September. We had to colour up white card stock with our inkpads and originally he did a Facebook Live the day before his class so everything would dry overnight. I wasn't enamored with the colours being used, so at the time thought I would watch the class and decide what colours I would use.

I wish I had just gone with my original picks as even though I did some ink smooshing before lunch today everything was still pretty wet after I had eaten. I then tried to dry with my heat tool but was worried the paper may catch on fire before I dried it. I actually think it may all have worked a lot better also if I had used a blending cardstock which is a lot heavier weight too.

This are my two cards made from this mini class:

Brutus Monroe was very generous with our kit swag, we received a Birthday Tags stamp set and  a 27 piece, yes 27 piece!!! Occasional Tags die set. We also received 2 pieces of Decofoil from Thermoweb that are Brutus Monroe collaborations. The photos show the complexity of the foil but the colour is so far off; the blue piece (Blue Wave) looks electric blue in real life and the silver piece (Silver Sketch) is a very shiny silver crisscrossed with lines. The photo does show how complex the pieces are. We also received double sided foam adhesive and easy cut adhesive sheets, which is all we needed for the foil to stick too. We just had to burnish with our fingers. The blue piece was much easier to work with than the silver piece, Michael also had to go over the silver piece multiple times too but the finish is worth it, the blue piece you only had to touch it lightly and the foil transferred

The first card all the foiling happened with. I decided my big piece of blue card stock I created by smooshing the inkpad to the white card was never going to dry so I stamped some Tahitian Tide card stock from SU! with my Versamark ink pad and then white embossed and used Tahitian Tide ink on my tag as well.

The second card we smooshed a rainbow of inks for our balloons and blending on the cardstock. Michael used 6 colours I used 5 as I like the rule of "odd numbers" so I used a yellow-orange ink, rather than a yellow and an orange. Colours used were from Pinkfresh Studios: Passionfruit, Marigold, Grassy Knoll, Summer Shower, Lavender.

The balloon background stamp is black embossed, unlike Michael I used my Versafine Nocturne ink and clear embossing powder. I hate black embossing powder it gets everywhere it isn't supposed to be.

I can see the tags will be a great addition to my craft room and I loved foiling this way it looks just incredible in real life. It's totally different than what I get with my heat activated foil which is a lot finer detail but a great thing to be able to add a bit more sparkle to our cards.

I am also very excited to report only 4 more classes to go now :)
